Clang, Clang, Clang!

We love our fun new balloon design: a vintage trolley! Especially perfect for a San Francisco 

wedding (or New Orleans, Seattle, Memphis...), this trolley can be customized on its front banners and side panels. We think this design works beautifully for representing a new union: Trolleys have a rich history; they have stood the test of time, and they symbolize both community and the joy of new journeys.

In honor of our new design, here are seven fun facts about the American trolley!

1) San Francisco cable cars are the only mobile national monuments. 

2) Each San Francisco cable car is a work of art: taking 18 to 24 months to complete, and built with Alaskan Spruce, iron, steel, and polished brass.

3) Cable cars take two people to operate them: a conductor, and a gripman (who maneuvers a 365 pound device that grips the cable). No woman was ever able to pass the gripman training course, until 1998, when Fannie Mae Barnes, aged 52, became the first.

4) In 1968, President Lyndon Johnson’s daughter was kicked off a trolley for eating ice cream.

5) “Streetcars” did not come to be known as “trolleys” until 1888, when Richmond, Virginia made its streetcars electric. The name “trolley” comes from the word “troller”—a device that allows an electronic current to pass.

6) The classic musical “Meet Me in St. Louis” devotes an entire number to the joys of riding a trolley. Songwriter Hugh Martin claimed he was inspired to write "The Trolley Song" when he saw a caption in a book about the history of St. Louis. The book had a page with a picture of a turn-of-the-century trolley car, captioned "Clang! Clang! Clang! went the jolly little trolley."

7) Judy Garland did the “Trolley Song” scene in one take. Though she flubbed one of the lines, director Vincent Minnelli insisted they keep it because Garland’s first effort was so magical.

A New Way to Shop!

We are so excited to announce what we have been working on for months: the new Bleu de Toi website (www.shopbdt.com)!
We have crafted it to be a beautiful and user-friendly way to shop and view our products. The website offers you new insights into the BDT world: search for products organized by design, or by event-type; read our detailed tips on the best way to use and display your custom guestbook, find out about special services we offer, and meet our team.

Bleu de Toi has been creating guestbook fingerprint trees, balloons, and other whimsical designs since 2009, when BDT founders Josh and Hilary drew their first fingerprint oak for their own wedding.  Next month, we will celebrate our 4^th anniversary as an Etsy shop. On our website, you will now find additional information to ease the shopping process. Along with viewing all the designs in one place, you can also now see all the ink color choices on one page for easier decision-making. We’ve also added a more inclusive custom-ordering system, so that you can make sure your guestbook has the detail you envision. In addition, we have lots of new products for sale, including pens! We now offer the same pens for sale that we use to draw your custom guestbook. Finally, you can view how others have used their guestbooks in our great client photo gallery. Take a look at our site and share it with your friends! And if you’re a former customer, we’d love for you to share a picture of your finished guestbook through our “Share Photos” button. One Tree, Many Ways - The Holiday Pine / Christmas Tree

As an adaptation of our classic conifer signature tree, the Holiday Pine is just the right size and so versatile! We have been selling it for a while for winter weddings or small mountain events to be used with signatures as the pine needles. The original artwork is on 18x24" archival, artist-quality paper. Just right for framing in any spot in your home!  Shown here with two red fingerprint birds for a happy bride and groom, used much like our conifer tree. But lets explore the many ways you can have fun with the same design!

 Add the Holiday Pine to your annual Holiday Party as a fun activity for kids, young at old, or those that are kids at heart. This example tree was actually decorated by children from my church. They had a blast stamping their finger and thumbprints all over it, then turning many of them into ornaments or lights with their own unique drawing. 

Decorating the Christmas tree is a post-Thanksgiving weekend tradition for many. This would be a fun way to prolong the activity and get into the Yuletide Spirit. Hang it in a frame over your mantle, and your house is beautifully decorated with personal Holiday Cheer! 

 Here it is shown used as a guestbook for a Christmas Season Wedding or anniversary party.

But this doesn't have to only be for Christmas! For those of you who celebrate Hanukkah or just the joys of December, decorate the tree with brown fingerprints decorated as pine cones and colored fingerprints for birds.
